Royal Palace, Qasr Al Alam, locked between hillsides
and the sea, at the head of the deep and beautiful
bay with its imposing sixteenth-century Portuguese
forts of Mirani and Jalali guarding the entrance
to Muscat harbour. Then visit the fine natural
Muttrah harbour where Omani wooden sailing dhows
still call to port with Muttrah Fort and some
of Muttrah’s older houses displaying oriental
flamboyance from the prosperity brought by sea
trade.
